My desire is to build a better platform for CBB-Kigali family

Today, the success of many activities, projects or services is strongly influenced by effective communication and use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and it is more important for many institutions or organizations to have their own platforms. Given the impact of the latest technologies the world is experiencing today, people no longer need to spend a lot of time exploring paper documents or fixed archives. Similarly, getting information or communicating with the targeted group is no longer the time to write letters or transmit oral messages. The use of social media has become a solution to accelerate the way people communicate and the platforms developed help to record information and events. Furthermore, social media and online platforms are now an important weapon for development, as they are easily used to make money in different ways that are not mentioned in this blog post.

Getting back to my family - CBB Kigali, I realized that with the other social media we use, we need a platform that helps the family to maintain stories, events, as well as to help with communication, announcements, calendar observations, explain our background and make people aware of our activities and services we offer. Although our history is not too long as a young community, it is not too short to ignore, and it is so impressive to keep every single moment we record. Therefore, It is for this reason I thought to build a platform that supports us in all the aforementioned advantages.

It is quite difficult to continue to publicize the family on platform without briefly explaining its origin. "In October 2017, according to the plan to relocate each courses, departments or schools to the associated colleges, the decision to relocate the campuses of the University of Rwanda was implemented. As a result, many students were relocated due to this scenario. Similarly, in Chorale le Bon Berger family at Huye campus, many members were moved, and many of them were relocated to the UR colleges in the City of Kigali."

In the same situation, I was one of those student members of Chorale le Bon Berger Huye who moved to Kigali, more precisely to the UR - College of Science and Technology (Former KIST). It was not easy for us to continue singing in the family, but due to the commitment of some of us, they organized members from different campuses in Kigali, and later they started working as a choir whose mother is CBB Huye and later they agreed to name it CBB Kigali in recognition of their great love for the CBB family as well. Dreams became true from the day the family sang the first Holly Mass at the UR, the College of Science and Technology. They have continued to serve the Catholic community at CST, but because of the desire to expand to the point of serving the wider community, not only at the university level, the family applied to join St. Michael parish, and were soon approved.

Since joining the St. Michael Parish community, CBB-Kigali has begun to accept new members not only for the condition of being a student, but simply to be a Catholic who has received the sacrament of Baptism. Since then, it has continued to grow in terms of singing skills, social activities and number of choir members. This growing situation has led the family to be strong and loved across the community of St. Michael's Parish, the Catholic community in Kigali and the entire country.

Whilst the situation was so amazing, it seemed that CBB Kigali family needed to build a structure that would support it in expanding its activities to the wider community, not only in the country but all over the world. It is for this reason that a platform to strengthen its activities in terms of effective communication, publicity and efficient recording of every moment spent was needed. This is why CBB-Kigali started using some social media such as Instagram and WhatsApp, and helped the family as much as possible, but not as much as needed.

Alongside other commissions in CBB-Kigali family, there was a first action to strengthen the marketing and design commission and asked to put all efforts to create a strong social media platform. Together, this commission launched a project to stabilize and strengthen the structure of how social media will be improved as well as marketing and design. I was part of the team and started working on the website and below is how it is designed. 
CBB-Kigali family owns the website which is designed in django python web development. It contains home and about pages that give a good picture of what CBB Kigali family is all about. There is also a blog system that will help point out and publish where each member of the family should write the blog article and other users or visitors should like, or comment on the published blog.

The website also has a registration, login and logout system and is only designed for the family members. This website also has a side that will help users and visitors to find CBB Kigali information such as latest messages, announcements, calendars, family members according to the voice category they serve in. Moreover, the website is designed to allow users to follow other social media of the family such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter. Even though the website is there, it is still under development and being updated and each family member is allowed to share their ideas, so that our platform should be designed and structured the way it serves, according to the wishes of the entire family.
